I think one of the harder things for newer lifters to understand with a bulk is that you have to eat often when you are not hungry. This is not easy to do.

Just for eveyone's info I have done the bulk/cut stuff for the last several years. I have found it does not work. This winter I actually added muscle/wt/fat/strength and did the transformation contest in order to motivate myself to actually see if I can see abs at...hmmm, cough, cough 46.

After finishing, I found myself at a much lighter wt than I thought possible AND hit a squat PR in the process. So, it has renewed my interest in a PL meet. I know everyone says don't worry about wt classes, but I'm one little competitive SOB. If I tried at 165# I would look very weak and therefore would not give it 100%. But, if I can stay under 148# and be competitive.....LOOK OUT!

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Well Storm, after watching your dedication the past several months, I would have to say go for 148 and let it rip.

When I think about my upcoming powerlifting meet my goal is just to feel competitive.

Personally, I didn't worry about losing weight or shrinking fat cells (for Rich) until I hit 250 lbs and started to feel slow and sluggish. I just couldn't see wasting efforts in the gym by not giving myself the needed fuel to recover and grow. It's way easier to reduce your mid-section than it is to gain strength and muscle. Now I've been cutting for several months and I'm down to ~220 lbs...ready to start growing again. Granted I'm not really lean at 220, at least not by bodybuilder standards, but I feel a ton more athletic and I'm producing better in the gym.

That's what I did. I tracked my calories for a couple of weeks. Now I know how much and of what I have to eat to make sure I'm not underfeeding myself. I don't worry too much about what I should and shouldn't eat. The only thing I try to avoid is sugar and unhealthy fats.
