Some exercises are easier than other, and Dorian used exercises that worked for him. He wasn't afraid of machines. I think if you have access to machines and can find some that fit into this protocol then you will be better off than performing it with only compound barbell and dumbbell work.

He takes Dorian's style and explores it a bit more. He also talks about periodization, or the cycling from light to heavy over 3 weeks on an exercise.
I liked LaVelle's periodization approach better. Ramming heavy weight week in and week out, especially to failure, can be a dangerous game for many.
