For me sumo is just much more comfortable. I have a long body and short arms and legs. Good for squatting, not great for pulling. The bottom part of a sumo pull is more of a squat like movement and as Steve said, my deadlift has gone up no end. Best conventional deadlift was 152.5kg's for 3 with HORRENDOUS back rounding, hitching, the lot. In the meet I completed in December I pulled an easy 200kg's. It came up so fast I think I could have gone 210-220!

Moral of the story: Try both but school yourself on the differences first.

By the way, when I say I helped LTL, my help was minimal. I did little other than encourage him to try sumos.

LTL worked his arse off. Let's not forget that important point. LTL is a great example of what can be accomplished with the iron if you stay persistent.

i do rack lifts instead of full on deads.they work pretty good for me.
