Default Bodybuilders vs. Powerlifters

Why do you feel that bodybuilders have so much more muscle mass than powerlifters even, in mose cases, powerlifters being much stronger?

Maybe is it the shorter rest periods, couple with the higher reps, leading to more gh production...

What do you think about this?

Natural bodybuilders don't have more muscle than natural powerlifters. That's a myth created by people who've not spent a lot of time around both. When you meet them in real life you will see. Both have lived in the gym for a long time.

Enhanced powerlifters are often big, but take different drugs than enhanced powerlifters. One drug protocol is for sheer strength, one for sheer muscle. Still, most season powerlifters have a ton of muscle.

Go to meets, you will see a ton of huge powerlifters. Trust me. My powerlifting friends look bigger than my bodybuilder friends in real life.

I've met Eric Lilliebridge and Jay Cutler. Both are huge. Eric doesn't train every minor bodypart though.

In all honesty, I think drugs are the biggest factors. The IFBB pros use massive doses and synthol to enhance their appearance. Also, If you see the natural powerlifters, they are actually pretty much the same size as the bodybuilders, just with maybe some lagging body parts. Lyle McDonald wrote in an article that of the natural powerlifters and bodybuilders he's worked with and known, the powerlifters actually got bigger a lot quicker due to adding weight to the bar and large amounts of calories, whereas the natty bbs focused on staying lean and mind muscle connection etc.

But to answer the question, you are probably looking at it too narrowly. You are probably only familiar with top powerlifters and bodybuilders, that top 1% of the elite. Most powerlifters have a huge amount of Lean Body Mass , sometimes much more than bodybuilders.

Synthol is a big factor also.

Strength and size are seperate and distinct apadtations of the body. Developing explosive bursts of strength actually has more to do with teaching the central nervous system to fire more muscle fibers than actually making the muscles stronger/bigger. COmbine that with technique training and developing enough conditioning to make sure the enhanced efficiency from the CNS won't tear you apart and you essentially maximize strength.

Basically, doing things to develop size can help maximize strength, and doing things that develop strength can help maximize size, but the two are essentially completely unconnected when it comes to stimulating an adaptation in the body.
