IFBB Drops Female Bodybuilding

Yes you read that right. After this year there will be no more female bodybuilding in the IFBB. No bodybuilding Ms. Olympia.

From Cory Everson:

With the Olympia coming up I am sad this will be the last year for women's bodybuilding in IFBB events and will feel a bit of loss as it goes away. But, as I said often this year I am excited the newest category for women will make its first appearance in the Olympia, Women's Physique. I have watched the physique results all year and was fortunate to see the physique competition at the Tampa Bay Wings of Strength IFBB show this year. I believe women's physique is the category where I, Rachel and Lenda would compete today. I love the look and the symmetry of the physique competitors. I will be watching the Olympia results in physique and how the category develops for the future.

Wow why?

Most women do not want to look like the current Ms. Olympia. Competitors are moving to healthier classes.

I would concur. They want to look like women and not some sort of mutant. IMHO, good for the IFBB.

That makes sense I guess. I didn't think about that.

Just for clarification, is IFBB natural? If not, then bodybuilding for women isn't the underlying problem because a natty female bb-er wouldn't look like a mutant (as Bam describes it :)) but just like a healthy female, IMO.

IFBB is definitely not natty, and Ms. O is a mutant:

Sad for the ladies who have already sacrificed so much to get to that level.

I actually got to meet Cory Everson in the 90's she was awesome

It obviously sucks for the women who aspired to be Ms Olympia, but I think this is the right decision. It is better for the health of the athletes and the attraction of the show for the viewers.
