That is not a healthy look at all.

That said, it won't be the first or the last time a bodybuilder dies either after being on stage or just during routine training but they aren't alone, competitive eaters have been known to die after competing.

Is the death related to what they do? Possibly not. Death happens.

And, that still isn't a good look.

It's hard to say what caused it. We do know that she's been competing for 20 years, and that it's not uncommon for bodybuilders to pass on around this age.

Yeah, I was just putting it out there mostly due to newcomers and people, in general, that have little grasp of bodybuilding, who would unfortunately see bodybuilder and heart attack in the same sentence and wrongly assume that one leads to the other.

Considering what they have to put their bodies thru to get on stage, I think it's reasonable to suspect the contest prep was likely a contributing factor. TBH, she looks almost scary in that photo. I think it's about as far away as healthy as you can get, especially at 50 years old.

It's also a scary thought that it is not uncommon for bodybuilders to pass on at around 50 y/o. Not sure why anyone would want to take on such a huge risk like that.

Default increasingly common

Agreed - seems to me though it's on the increase. Just in the last few months there seems to have been a glut of bb deaths from Nasser to Denise Gerard, Sharon Marvel... and I'm sure there's more.
I guess the gear has just been more readily available than in the past - who knows

She suffered her heart attack during a treadmill session, according to muscleweek.com.

I'm with Jim. Although we won't ever know for certain, it's a fair bet that the gear and contest prep were a contributing factor at the least.

What I find especially tragic about this is that I can picture the poor lass posting on boards about finding a great guru who'd really sorted her prep out, and how her diet was really dialed in this time, and so on.

I think a lot of serious bodybuilders believe the health risks aren't really all that bad 'if you know what you're doing'. The deaths and near-misses around them are always explained away by the sufferer 'doing something really stupid'. The trouble is no one really knows what they're doing with this stuff - not when it comes to the long term effects on health. There just isn't a huge amount of serious studies into the subject.

BBs are in a health information vacuum. On the one hand they've got bro-science, which is steeped in denial and wishful thinking. On the other, they've got stonewalling or blanket condemnation from the medical profession.

Default The preserve of lobby groups - with no chance of getting the truth

Spot on - pretty much like every other illegal drug, just becomes a debate carried out by the hugely pro or hugely anti lobbies, leaving the rest of us with no clue as to the actual truth.

True. One side claims PEDs are as safe as eating kale chips, the other side claims steroids turn you into a raging soon-to-be corpse.

The answer for most issues like this is somewhere in the middle, except when extreme abuse is taking place. Unfortunately, I've heard the chemicals many of these guys/gals take, and I consider them extreme.
