damn didn't think it'd get this many posts ha this is awesome.
i'm thinking about sticking with the program i'm on now till the new year so i can push all my lifts to the limit with this program, take a week off, then hit the 20 rep squats hard.

on another note, i like grims revisions on the program on this forum so that you don't bench and shoulder press every workout (3 times a week) i'll be doing this one

Look out the the log starting the beginning of next year. gonna be sick

grim i know you love the cluster set approach, but would that be the best for a beginner like me? and i'd like to workout 3 times a week... how does this sound:

A
Breathing Squats- 1x20
Pullovers- 1x20
Bench Press- 2-3x8-10
BB Row- 2-3x8-10

B
Breathing Squats- 1x20

Military Press- 2-3x8-10
Chin-ups- 2-3x8-10

is it too much to be doing the breathing squats 3x a week?

I do not think it is too much, you are very young and I believe you should take advantage of your youth while you have it. I did a 20 rep squat routine once and I did breathing squats 3 times a week (I did not know they were called breathing squats at the time), but I did it 3 times a week without much of a problem, but you will probably need a break from it after a few weeks.

You should feel it out, and see how your body reacts to the breathing squats.

sounds like a plan, i might start with 3 days a week then back off to two as the weights get heavier like someone on this board suggested... but again i'll feel it out the first week and decide then

I would think you would be able to do it the first week and then just feel it out from there, if your body feels good do it, if not wait another day or so. Just listen to your body.

3 times a week would kill a mortal man. But if you can them...more power too you. Just buy some bigger pants.

Good luck to you! Just remember to drop the ego at the gym door. By that I mean don't jump right in with your current weights and attempt 20 reps. Don't even come anywhere near it for starters. Build up to it. Start on the light side, and let the momentum build. If you start too heavy, you will stall, which will lead to frustration, which will make you hate the program, which will make you dis it on the internet. If that happens, I will come and slap you upside the head with a baseball bat.

I see your current squat is 3x5x165. 165 x 20 might be a reasonable goal for your first run on the program. I am not kidding, and I am not trying to insult you. If you even start with an empty bar and squat three times a week, you will reach 165 in only eight weeks. But by starting light and being patient you will solidify your form, increase your confidence, and build up a boatload of momentum, so much so that you will likely be able to push beyond your goal. It is all about sustaining progress.

As for the rest of your workout plan, I see you've got one upper body push and one upper body pull each workout. Very good. Similar to what I ran. As you get deep into the run though, maybe consider dropping the volume on those exercises too. Other than that, eat like a horse and sleep like a dog and you should be in good shape.

I can't wait for your journal. I think I've said this before, this is gonna be fun.

can't wait for the new year. i'm thinking about starting at 85 and working up from there, my 5max isn't 165 it's just the most i've ever done, as i keep going on this workout i'm on now i'll keep bumping that up, i did 3x5x165 yesterday no problem and it used to be my 5RM so i can imagine another at least 10-15 pounds are coming soon
