the reason the good programs work is they are simple. It boils down to eating a lot heavy compound movents,calories and recovery at first especilay. All the best programs are simple 531, 5x5, hit ,abbreviated and them programs are the best until you are fairly happy with your strength they are simple. Mike mentzer,arture jones,mcroberts,jim wendler they all say obssion is not going to help go about your life eat a lot of calories go to the gym 3 or 4hrs a week hours lift heavy stuff theres many ways of doing it but it all comes down to the same thing. Prediaztion is not for some one far from there peak. Thats what already powfull athletes use to go from strong to a little stronger.
and band,chains and speed work how many times you see body builders do it and many of them have comparably raw totals to power lifters. I mean hell bill kazmier never seen a band to my knowlege. Or even franco columbo he would even now be one of the best power lifter in the contry if he was around now in his prime. They just lift heavy stuff and eat good and drug but they all do so

There is some good science. Dr, Casey Butt has analyzed the meta science. It does boil down to pretty much common sense...like heavy weight, and compound lifts.
I agree with you on the powerlifting end. Sometimes things tend to get over-complicated. It's the same with bodybuilding.
Some of the strongest men in history used simple approaches.
I think it's fair to say that the greatest 2 factors in determining success are:
1) Genetic pre-disposition
2) Drive and determination
