I read in an article by Louis Simmons that I can not seem to find, that if you are going for a new PR, you should do approximately 90% of your previous PR and then go for the new one.

So 90% of 300 is 270, so I would do that, but that is just my opinion.

I understand that, but I don't think that is what he is going for here. He means if you are giong for a pr in this workout not in general. I know I wouldn't do that many sets prior to doing a bench pr.

One thing I will add is that Layne sticks to his guns, and he is one strong mofo. But his hip raising before he deadlifts drives me apeshit If there's one thing I'm OCD about, it's deadlift form.

just caught back up with this. About the bar. I will start using this everytime I do deads. I threw my back out doing them with a bb. Form isn't so critical with the trap bar IMO. Or it doesn't feel as awkward.
