What worked well for me was pushing every set close to failure, but stopping when I feel like I would fail on the next rep. I was maximizing every set, and my body seemed to respond very well.

Right now i would say train heavy when its time to train, eat big when it is time to eat, and sleep good wjen it is time to sleep. That and focus on progression. None of these concepts are new.

A simple diet of carbs, protein, veggies and heavy lifting seemed to work best for me

Don't get any simple than this! People tend to over complicate it but the formula is very simple

Never shared mine. I believe it is the hardest lesson to learn.

Patience!

Muscles are not built over night. If you rush things, you will get fat or get hurt. Lift right, eat right, sleep right and be patient. "If you build it, they will come!" (my paraphrase. Brownie points for movie and who this is talking about.)

Concentrate on getting stronger. It gives you a tangible goal to work for and you have real feedback whether your making progress or not. The mirror and the scale can take longer and give you flawed feedback. Eat in a way that supports your main goal (getting stronger). I promise if you put 300 pounds on your raw total it will give you the best chance to put on mass.
