Heavy compound lifting which involves the core (abs and back areas) will help with the development of those muscles, on top of which stripping the excess fat away will assist in showing them.

Abs can be developed in many ways successfully but like titan said its nutrition that will show them off. Stripping the fat away is the best way to reveal them.
Also as was said heavy squats and deads have been the most beneficial to building my core.

I agree with the nutrition. You can work them all you want but if you eat crap, you will never have them show through.
