Slow lifting

Will the slower I lift allow me to get maximum results faster?

BendtheBar 06-18-2012 01:36 PM

No. Focus on progression.

Most people will never need to worry about things like this.

IMO: Make sure you lift slow enough to keep good form and don't throw the weight.

You've opened up a can of worms here! But yeah, listen to BtB and just focus on progression and shifting the weight.

Controlled but not slow.

This is an interesting read:

Lift slow or lift fast, that is the question.

Progression is very important, but rich brings up a great point. Most new lifters just throw around weight with no control. How many times do i see guys just dropping a bar down on to their chest during benching and bouncing it up. THat really isn't going to do much other than stop your heart.

lift slowly to me is having control of the weight.

for a beginner, just focus on progression and control. simple thing to do is try to keep the negative movement roughly the same speed as your positive.

Depends on your goals Imo. Speed reps are great for strength...
