If you're running a gym, you won't be training many people, you'll be too busy with admin and staff stuff. To be a good gym manager, you'll need an understanding of training people.

To have an understanding of training the ordinary low risk gym-goer, you only need (1) common sense and (2) Cert III+IV Fitness. EP is for moderate risk clients.

To run a gym, you need some kind of Sports Management, there are certificates and diplomas, look into those.

Well, I have a background in health but do not hold any formal qualifications at present.
I have a small list of positions I'm hopeful of taking (I should mention I'm minoring in business management/entrepreneurial skills):

    * Own and/or manage my own gym
    * Management (not necessarily top tier) of a government or private hospital/health campus.
    * And I've considered being a personal trainer or the like, but it's not a favoured option.

My missus is also going to be a surgeon in a few years.

As with all things, depends on your goals. What sort of job do you want to do?

Hi Kyle. Something you wrote in a recent post prompted me to make an inquiry: I am due to start my BSc in Exercise Physiology this year. I was wondering what you think of this choice of study?
