Old School Nutritional Guidelines for the Obese

These guidelines for obese patients were published by Harvard, Cornell and Stanford between 1943 and 1952:

--Do not use sugar, honey, syrup, jam, jelly or candy.
--Do not use fruits canned with sugar.
--Do not use cake, cookies, pies, puddings, ice cream or ices.
--Do not use foods which have cornstarch or flour added such as gravy or cream sauce.
--Do not use potatoes (sweet or Irish), macaroni, spaghetti, noodles, dried beans or peas.
--Do not use fried foods prepared with butter, lard, oil or butter substitutes.
--Do not use drinks such as Coca Cola, ginger ale, pop or root beer.

Though I see the point to most of the above, I will never understand the problem about eating potatoes; I practically lived on them as a kid and was skinny...it's what people put with them that makes them a problem, IMO.
