Default Starting out on the powerlifting road, any advice?

So I have lifted on and off for a while now but I really want to start taking it seriously, there is a gym local to me (Leeds) where a lot of powerlifters go and I would like to start going there one day. Anybody got any good advice/routines that will stand me in good stead for the future?

Thanks Jonny......

Welcome aboard. You have the best advice in your own hands. If you have access to a gym with "a lot of powerlifters"...then go there and fill your head with their knowledge. They will explain to you and help you out. But you need to go there first.

Enjoy MaB!

I've not lifted in a while and I want to get back into the swing of things at home before I sign up down there, it's the clean eating I find the hardest to stick to.....

There's this beginner routine but it's not really ideal for home workouts, given the sled dragging etc.

You may want to post your question about a routine in the Powerlifting section, where more people will see it and be able to advise on a routine based around equipment that you have available to you at home, if you let them know what you have:

Thanks a lot for the advice, I shall try that routine, and then maybe join the gym in a few weeks once I get my form sorted.

There's no reason to hesitate. Powerlifters only want to help one another from the beginner to the best of the best. You have nothing to be embarrassed about as we all started from the same place.

Join that gym and find a group of lifters who are willing to show you the ropes. Then, help them as best as you can. Load weights for them, run the monolift, spot and listen to what they have to say. That is how you will make the fastest progress.

Cheers man, I might just head down there tomorrow, I kinda know one of the lads through an old job so I might ask him to give me some advice while I'm there. It's meant to be a really good gym for these kind of workouts, apparently some famous guys go there, not sure if thats true or not but its worth checking out.....
