Hi all,

I originally registered just to ask Steve a question in his Q&A thread, but since this forum seems excellent, I might as well stick around and reveal something about myself.

My name is Jouni, I'm a 25 y/o IT student from Finland. I'm also an avid guitarist and have my own metal band. It all started a year ago, when I weighed over 113 kg's, drank way too much and was in horrendous shape. I was honestly scared that I was gonna die at that rate, so I decided to change all. I was not just going to lose weight, I was going to become Arnold Schwarzenegger 2 I also knew it was never going to be a diet, it was going to be a whole new lifestyle. So I quit drinking, started eating healthy and about 10 months ago I started strength training.

Come March I was down to about 68 kilos - that's an insane rate of weight loss, but to be honest, it felt like my body wanted to do it and I even had to pace myself. At that point I decided I was lean enough to start bulking. Since then I've been following Jason Blaha's (Ice Cream Fitness) Novice 5x5 and pig bulking I've made truly phenomenal strength and size gains (say what you will about my abs disappearing again, but my goal is not to be ripped - I want to get big and strong). The program is excellent - albeit very taxing - and I'm still getting stronger FAST.

So far my best 5x5 results are: (Note that I started basically from zero, and I've only been able to train hardcore for the last 5 months since coming off the diet phase.)
Squat 5x5 - 155 kg
DL 1x5 - 135 kg (form issues)
Bench 5x5 - 78.75 kg
Press 5x5 - 53.75 kg
Barbell Rows 5x5 - 120 kg

Here are my pics... no homo And sorry for my expressionless face - I take these photos every month to track my progress so I always want to be in a similar position.

Nice transformation...and hair cut.

Don't worry about the abs! When I was 4% with abs, I was not gaining muscle. At 8-10% with abs slightly covered, I started packing on muscle. Now, at 12-15%, muscle gain is even better... over 15% and you'll get fat faster than you gain muscle.

the point being, your pic at 78kg is where you want to live to keep gaining.

Thanks Yeah, I was pretty scared at first to start gaining weight, but my strength gains have been great since increasing the diet, and it seems like the right way to go. At 68 kg I just looked like a skinny guy who doesn't train.
