  • being made to feel that they don't have a right to use the equipment
  • sometimes surrounded by sweaty, swearing blokes banging the weights around
  • men leering at them or making overly familiar comments
  • equipment left loaded up (e.g. leg press machines) in such a way that they have no hope of unloading it without help

Things have moved on in the last fifteen years and it's getting a lot better, but I still think there's a tendency for guys to act like an alien species has suddenly annexed their little kingdom.

I partially came across this, the last time I was at the gym; someone had placed the 20kg plate behind the 25kg plate which meant I had to remove the plate from the rack section, get the 20kg plate and then replace the 25kg plate at the back, where it's supposed to be...fortunately, that wasn't an issue for me.

I tend not to use the 25kg plates because I see no need for the sake of going to 77kg, or so, which can easily be accomplished with 2 x 20kg, the bar, and 2 x 5kg...etc; but the fact that I had to move the thing to get to the smaller/lighter plate did annoy me a tad.

Excellent post 5kg. Some points had crossed my mind before but most had not. Its good to take a moment and look at something from a different perspective.
