I think you have to earn the right to work your arms directly. If you can't do 10 chinups then you have no business doing curls, and if you can't bench your bodyweight 10 times you have no business isolating your triceps. The effort it takes to reach those goals will get your arms much bigger than arm work anyways.

For starters, this is totally true - its too stupid to make up. We had a guy come on another forum who insisted he didn't need to workout. He considered flexing every muscle in his body, periodically throughout the day, was enough stimulus. IIRC, he called it his lazy man's routine, but took it very seriously. He actually argued it so much that he ended up getting banned from the forum. The stupidity was unbearable.

No doubt, this guy had issues.
Knew I guy back in high school who was convinced this was all he needed to do. Strangely enough, he never saw any results from it...

Surprisingly few people can actually do 10 x chin ups and 10 x bodyweight bench. It certainly is a tough effort. But you made an excellent point, screw isolation when your compounds need work.

Exactly! Yet how many people do we see wasting their time doing curls and triceps extensions?

I guess I get a little torqued when I see them, because I really do feel that I earned the right to do arm work. Hell, I can do 13 pull ups and bench my bodyweight 15+ times, and I'm much more proud of that than how big my arms are!

That reminds me of a few bad jobs I've had.

I just did my update measurement since my cut has begun. I now have 16 inch arms. Unfortuneatly they look tiny compared to my 54 inch chest. I have just recently started to do curls after never doing them before. I got 16 inch arms without ever training them directly. I think the plate loading approach has some merit
