Worst fitness or diet fad?

Hey guys!

I was talking with a friend last night about fads. Both of our mothers were runners in the late 70's. I told my friend that running was the worst fad because of how it seems to break down muscle. She said that the Atkins diet was the worst fad of her lifetime because once you got off the diet, you ballooned back up.

What's the worst fitness or diet fad that you've seen in your lifetime?

all those crazy ass diets you see advertised on tv...

They all work to some degree while you're on them. Where they suck is that they don't teach people how to properly adjust to "real life" once they're done.

In the end, it comes down a healthy lifestyle. If you can't sustain a healthy lifestyle, it really doesn't matter wtf diet you choose.

The Spike Diet is pretty bad

Hope you know I'm just kidding. One of the things I've learned in my lifetime of yo-yo dieting is if you want the weight gone long term you have to first lose it in a way you can maintain. For example if I did a normal diet and ate 1,500 cals a day for 6 months and worked out 5 times a week and lost 50 lbs. Then when I hit my goal weight and my workouts slipped to twice a week and I ate 2,500 a day because I hit my goal then I slowly gain my weight back. A regualr diet will eventually lower your resting metabolism which makes it even worse.

Low carb diets are tough to follow forever.

I tried the Warrior Diet earlier this year. It was a fairly solid approach, but I lost 10 pounds of muscle in 2 months.

All that crap on TV that says,..

It's easy, get stronger while you continue to sit on the lard in your ass, and eat crisco with a spoon right out of the can!! This magic pill will magically transform your hideous flab into pure amino acids, and build new muscle!!!

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!

(show testomonials with before and after photo's, saying results not typical)

Ok, so those people's results are not typical, show me some, whose results are!! Ya can't can ya!!

The USDA food Pyramid, is crap!!

Fads are crap!! People are sheeple, and looking for the easy way out. Take responsibility for your own life, and don't blame others because your too weak to finish what you start. You want to quit, do it. Don't say it's somebody elses fault though.

The wheel does not need to be reinvented, and there's not an easy way to do it. Deal with it!!! Hard work won't kill ya!!

I do like the Paleo Diet, as to the foods we should be eating. More importantly, it talks about the foods we shouldn't eat.

All work to begin with, but it only continues to work with proper transitioning back to real food with proper eating and exercise habits.

TSFL works great and continues to work for those who do it right, including the proper transitioning phase(which is given so that the client doesn't fall back). Those who don't transition have a tougher time.

I hate the "magic pill" diets. Like the one that says "if it didn't work could we charge you this much?" Ah, yes you could.

There is no magic pill and there never will be one, as much as I wish there was, but many people will wait forever to get it.

I will be the 1st to say it is not easy to lose 100lbs, but it can be done, and done without a pill or surgery. It just takes hard work and determination. But if I can do it really anyone can.
