Overweight People Live Longer

I mentioned this study in the Shout Box and am posting it for reference.

Study: Overweight People Live Longer

Quote:

Rather, the studies generally suggest that people with a BMI of 25 to 29.9 -- which is considered overweight but not obese -- have a survival advantage over people with higher or lower BMIs.

# Those classified as obese with BMI 30-34.9 had about the same risk of death.
# Those classified as overweight with BMI 25-29.9 were 17% less likely to die.

At 5'10" 240 I would have about the same desk risk as someone considered normal weight.

At 5'10" 205 I would outlive lighter folks, on the average.

Obviously this excludes a spectrum of other factors...

At 6'2" and 226, my current BMI is 29.

Interesting.

The most interesting aspect of the study is this:

Quote:

# Those classified as underweight were 73% more likely to die.
# Those classified as extremely obese with BMI of 35 or greater were 36% more likely to die.
It's better to be extremely overweight than underweight. Obviously very few of us as adults are at risk of being underweight, so I am not trying to position this as a reason to be extremely overweight. But it does hint that running on more food is better than running on less food. Seems obvious, I know.

That, and the fact that being small and/or weak is not good, especially when illnesses strike.

You have to look at this also. The condition I'm in now, I'm 22.3 BMI.
Under weight MBI is BMI less than 18.5. Thats pretty skinny. Anorexic even.

A slightly over weight BMR is 25 to 29.9 Thats not that much fat. MC is close to there max for over weight. NOT Obese just over weight.

Obese they have at the 35 or higher.

Seen as MC is at the top edge maybe he can post a pic as a visual referance for people?

Rich, here is a pic I just posted in my log this week.

Just under being obese by BMI standards. :P

Thanks MC. Now people can see a visual in this thread of what this BMI looks like.

I see you can still see a out line of your abb's at this BMI. ^5

No problem Rich. I'll be a real fat-ass by the time I'd done eating.

Note to everyone: my core is tensed in that pic and I am NOT breathing.
