If I had a Dollar...
If I had a dollar for every time I've heard..."I have a bad back and can't squat/front squat, what can I replace them with"... I would be retired.

Probably depends on whether someone really has an injured/bad back chronically or if they have a weak back/core that is in serious need of strengthening.

As someone who just hurt his back while performing hack squats, I have to say that having those muscles seize and give out on me with 230+ on my back was one of the more disturbing experiences of my life.

I've dropped weights and bars before when I pushed past my strength limits, but this was working with weight that I know I can do.

I have tweaked/hurt my back before.

I have never done so while performing a squat exercise (until now).

It has raised some hesitancy in me that I hope to conquer as my back recovers.

I hope you don't take me the wrong way. I am not meaning to imply that guys with legit back injuries are whining.

I just don't believe that 90% of the guys that say this to me have legit back injuries. I usually ask them to detail the nature of the back injury so I can advise them, and 99.99% of them never respond back. I get the same thing for knee injuries..."I have a knee injury and can't squat". When I ask about the injury, 99.99% of these guys disappear.

On the other hand, I NEVER hear..."I have a bicep injury and can't curl" or "I have a chest injury and can't bench."

i herniated a disc a while ago..could barely walk for months...i still squat, front squat, and do deadlifts...

I heard this one the other day, I actually meant to post it sooner.

"Why are you always squatting Gaz, you know its only for powerlifters right?"
