I squat simply because I love to do it - always have and always will. Met my wife while squatting. Having strong legs is a pleasant side effect

With my recent lower back kink, it was driving me crazy to layoff the squats for a week.

I didn't and I should have added (to my post) that the fact that people without injuries claim them, makes it harder for those with injuries to be treated as such, if that makes sense?

If I had a dollar, for everyone in the world, I would give it.

I would give it, if they could find the peices of the heart that fit so we could love and respect one another, and know that the beating of the heart is what creates the internal music.

If I had a dollar, for every one in the world, I would give it.
I would give it, so the ones with fitness goals with certain temporary destinations, realize that it is really a life long journey--with no price tag.

Never stop helping the brotha's and sista's no matter how much you may repeat yourself. Helping just one among the "potentially willful" is worth the effort.

Had my back surgically repaired too. I squat 3x a week and deadlift or some variation at least once a week. It just doesn't feel right if I don't. The Key is FORM.

What most fail to realize is that their knee and back "pains" are caused from their own inactivity.

Honestly, I had some pretty gnarly lower back and knee pains before I started doing compounds. Hell, I could hardly walk around in the mall for an hour before my back started bugging me to the point where I'd have to sit down. Initially there was discomfort doing squats and deadlifts, but since I haven't really experienced those pains under everyday circumstances. The only pains I feel now are results from my own stupidity.

Top Platz missed that one.

I think the thing that frustrates me the most is lack of discipline. In the military we were taught that when a leader gives an order, you act then think. This doesn't mean you don't think...you simply don't delay the action part to come up with your own version of the order.

I often ask myself...self, if I ran into a strong lifter with 19" arms when I was 18 would I listen and follow his advice to the T. The answer is, of course, yes. How do I know? I had a mentor in college who was a bodybuilder. he told me how to train and I followed his approach for 18 months straight, never wavering.

Absolutely.

I guess in hindsight my post is more about lack of discipline than it is about any one lift, if that makes sense?

I think it's also about people trying to lie to me, thinking I an an idiot. All I want is honestly. If someone is honest, I will help them. I'd rather have someone say "I am lazy and don't want to squat" than to manipulate me with lies.

**agrees with the above**

Lack of discipline is why people don't follow examples, like your experience described above. They hear that its hard work, and that it will take dedication; they throw their arms up and say "**** it, I'm going to go follow that DVD (insert ridiculous gimmick routine)" because it said you can have sick abz in 6 easy minutes, or something like that.

Honestly, the thing that gets me more frustrated than anything is when people ask questions, get a solid answer, get a stupid answer, and opt to go with the stupid answer because it sounds easier. I see it all the time.
