Default Tired of all the "tough guy" talk

I may be alone on this one, I don't know. But we've all been reading articles, magazines, seeing Twitter/facebook updates, etc. and I gotta say I'm getting tired of all the "tough guy" talk that is out there. It seems that in order to how you have a passion of lifting weights you have to talk as if you rule the world or the world must bow down to you, I guess that's why society has a stereotype towards people who have a passion for lifting weights. Wen people ask me what is my hobby, I tell them working out and lifting weights. Right there they already think I'm arrogant, insecure, and have no life. It's because people out there who ruin it for the rest of us.

To me, There's more to life than lifting weights. This was just a quick rant that I wanted to throw out there

I think I know what you mean Dmaipa.

As a writer I try and make sure I restrain from that type of talk. It's actually something I think about often and am aware of.

I have used it in mild degrees in the past and regret it.

I will add this is one of the reasons I try to steer most young lifters away from OCD obsessions. Enjoy life. You can do so and build muscle.

It bleeds over on forums and you see all the e-punks parroting it. It didn't seem to be like this years ago. All of my role models seemed decent and respectful.

It just seems that in order to get your point across you have to make some crazy remar like "it's bc you're f'in lazy, and you dont f'in want it." and then people reply as that being straight forward, or that person being real..there's more constructive ways. Read t-nation, and some articles on elitefts and other sites. It feels like there's one author ecause they all soun the same. I'm coming from a writing standpoint.

The one thing I learned about communication is this:

Quote:
Make your point and use plain language.
Some will agree. Some will disagree. Iron Addict used to post at bodytrolls.com and provide a simple answer. He didn't attack, belittle or call names. But he was confident.

He didn't try to sell his words with bravado. He believed in his words, helped the best he could, and made an exit without debating.

I can tell you as a writer that my most successful articles are basic articles that present helpful information to the "little guy". I try to stay out of the article's way for the most part.

Either you are selling an idea, or you are selling yourself and the idea. The truth is, if I am going to make the text/article interesting, I have to focus on simplicity, readability, and making a workout/idea approachable.

Some writers are more columnists, like Dan John. And that is OK. He presents ideas with anecdotes and humor.

Some writers who are bravado overkill, well, I just say enough already. I don't think I would want to spend much time in the same room with them, no matter how much they know.

I don't really know which sites are like this. I am primarily at M&S and the Tight Tan Slacks blog.
