I currently do 10X5 in the front squat. But, I have a problem if I suddenly increase it 50 reps: I have certain requirements at work such as: Walking-normally (and not like a duck), bending-normally, stooping-normally, sitting-normally, mental alertness, and most importantly, getting out of bed to do the aforementioned.

Am I wimp? Or should I take the risk and say fug-it?

Do you get a 2 day weekend? If so, work it on a Friday and you will then have two days to recover, more if Monday is a meeting day.

The last time I did 100 reps of squats I had brutal muscle soreness 8 days later.

Caveat actor.

If the past history is any indication, it will show up 24/48 usually, for me. I have been surprised before, and not had any too. Isnt the body funny? Just when you think you have yourself nailed down, it fuggs you up. Oh, well, the more I battle it, the more it wins.

I've just had a go at this.

Background

Celebrated my birthday (49!!) with a few days away - returned yesterday with aching knees, numbness in one leg and back pain - I'm just not built for walking around cities. Saw the 100 rep challenge and couldn't stop thinking about it. Decided this morning that, regardless of any other considerations, it had to be done.

Squat variation chosen

Full back squats. All were well below parallel

Weight selected

140 kg = 308lbs

Bodyweight

215

Equipment

Belt, knee sleeves (not wraps)

How it went down

Started 11:22. Did the first ten sets in fours - these took thirteen minutes. Break at 11:35 for five minutes. Next ten sets were done in threes - another 16 minutes. Halfway through these, I was seriously doubting I would make it. Couldn't manage any more threesafter this -had to go down to twos. Remaining 30 reps completed in fifteen sets. Finished at 12:15.

Verdict

It was not an hour I would care to repeat. My neck is raw from the bar slipping on the sweat. I had problems driving home and I've just had to shuffle up the stairs on my arse, because I can't really walk. Everything hurts.

Pointless but weirdly satisfying.

Nicely done Tannhauser. A birthday gift you probably won't forget for a while.

Eat, drink and rest. This quote pretty much sums up the challenge:

Quote:
I've just had to shuffle up the stairs on my arse
I probably won't be able to finish in an hour either.

Did this today in 59 minutes. 155lb zercher squats. 3 sets of 8, 6 sets of 6, then 8 sets of 5.

My lower back wanted to explode about halfway in, and now my forearms are in considerable discomfort, and I will probably be walking very funny for the next few days.

But damn was it fun.
