I feel squats and deads mainly in my glutes. As said above, check your form.

Glutes never sore after squat?
A common problem is pelvic tilt at bottom. If it's at the last vertebrae (L5/S1) it's almost impossible to see it when assessing the technique.
Make sure you master the hip hinge.
Agreed with the others in exercises.
