I'd say you could make your own "mass gainer" with whey protein powder. You can ad milk, yogurt, cream, fruit, nuts, peanut butter, ect to get extra calories and nutrients. Though I agree with others, eating is a big factor.

You might only have to come up with 2000 calories (or so) if you have one of those every day. That's pretty damn easy! Eat food -> done.

Just think of mass gainers as food. Supplement companies try to sell them as special products that will add muscle to your frame by themselves. All they really do is add more calories to your diet. Since they are made primarily of maltodextrin, they are not very nutrient dense. It makes more sense to get your extra calories from nutrient sense whole foods. There are some great suggestions in this thread. My favorite these days is a can or two of coconut milk. It's easy to drink, full of healthy fats, tastes great, and comes in at like 750 calories a can.

As others have said, real food is best: meat, poultry, fish, whole grains, potatoes, dairy, fruit, nuts and nut butters.

Try to get your Protein from Food. Only use Whey right after working out. Casein Protein instead.

I eat so much Chicken thighs is crazy.. All I take to work to eat is 4-5 Baked Chicken thighs, Green Beans, Celery, Peanut Butter and a Salad. Sometimes if I workout right before work. 2 scoops of Whey. Any shake other then not right after my workout is Casein.

Flat Iron Steaks, Pork Steaks are cheap and pretty good grilled right.
Meat Tenderizer, Seasoning Salt, then spread melted butter with garlic powder on them.

Eye of Round Steak-If you have a dehydrator you can make Beef Jerky Cheap and in under 6hrs. I've got a nice mix for this. Soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Hot Sauce, Orion powder, Seasoned Meat tenderizer, Salt, Pepper, Brown Sugar..Super easy to do and great to go snack.

The gainers provided a surplus of calories. I would have to agree with everyone else...meat, rice potatoes, eggs and milk would do the same and fill any any gaps of protein with a good quality Whey.
