From experience, I think it's more a time factor than an exercise per se. More often than not, strong athletes injure themselves when least expected, and whilst lifting something a "normal" person can manage. I'm talking about lifting something at home, in an awkward fashion, and when having had no muscle/joint warm up at all. Name it: a couch, a TV, a Fridge, a washing machine...your spouse (perhaps)...it's all lifting!

Of course, those cross fit? crazy ball exercises such as squatting whilst standing on a giant ball etc. don't do much to keep one safe from possible injuries.
