The Smith Machines best attribute or use is to be able to complain legitimately about equipment. I frigging hate that thing

I tend to use the smith machine for powershrugs just because barbell shrugs usually hurt my back and spin

Squatter, that'sounds 3 pieces of equipment I would never use. All are hard on the knees.

I think the smith machine could be useful for a severely injured person that has imbalance issues (like missing a leg).

See I came from a style of lifting that was more prone to use the Smith Rack, Bodybuilders inbrace the Smith Rack. Powerlifters not so much. But I think we can learn a little from different styles of lifting for better out comes. When I use the Smith Rack to destroy a muscle group. I can do it very effective, comfortable and safe.

I use it as an accessory exercise for many things. Seated Military Press, Bench with Bands, Squats for loading my Quads... Wife loves doing different lunges were she can shift her weight more. BUT I NEVER EVER USE IT TO REPLACE MY CORE EXERCIES NOR DO I BASE MY WORKOUT AROUND ONE.

Example:
Bench - Warm ups and 5/3/1
Smith Bench with Bands 3x10
Smith Bench without bands Burnout 1xFailure

My Chest is TOAST... If I need to focus a little more on triceps that day. I'll take a closer grip on the Smith banded bench. You can really focus and adjust yourself to use more Triceps.

There as been times to were my shoulders didn't feel that great.. But I can do Seated Miliatry Press on the Smith Rack.

It's just a machine. Use it to work a muscle against the force of gravity and get gains.

Pretty much. So long as you're not unnecessarily risking injury - or setting yourself up for it - in the process, that's exactly it.

All these things are tools, devices, means to an end. To completely "train naturally", you'd probably have to stick to rock climbing (sans gear), pullups, farmer's walks with dead animals or whatever... and so on.

Don't find many barbells out there in the wilderness.

When I did lift in a commercial gym, the smith machine was adjacent to where we deadlifted. I used to pull a bench in, place the bar at 3 ft, and use it as a back rest between sets.
