Left leg is tight
Yesterday I was sitting in class and my entire left leg started to get really tight. When I stood up after class my knee had a sharp pain in it for a few seconds. I don't know why. From my hip and down my whole leg is tight. Especially my quads. At times it isn't bad, and at times it is worse. It feels like I've been given a shot in my hip actually.

I don't know what this is. It is just a sudden onset of tightness. I was able to go into the gym and do my squat workout. I even felt stronger than normal. It's the heaviest weight I've done in a while and it was even easier than last week when I didn't have this problem. Now today, a few times my knee has given me a few more sharp pains, but there wasn't any actual indicator of any of this while I was lifting yesterday. It all disappeared and began to come back.

Any ideas and advice? I've tried stretching it. Maybe it just needs more.

I get random pains and aches occasionally. Sometimes I get a twitchy muscle for hours.

I would just eat, rest and heat. Something needs recovery time, so give it what it needs.

I was going to say exactly what BtB said. If it's not a normal pain associated with heavy squatting, then give it some TLC and see how it feels next week. Perhaps video tape your next squat session to see if there are any form issues that have snuck in.

All right. Thanks, guys.

Some of the most common reasons for knee pain are swollen or torn ligaments, meniscus (cartilage) tears, and runner's knee. But the knee is a complex joint, and there's plenty more that can go wrong.

I'm not sure what it is. When I woke up this morning, things were fine. Overall, things have been fine. It's just at certain points of the day, my left hip gets really tight, down to my quadricep, and then at times my left knee will just have a sudden shot of pain and then be fine. Going down into a full squat isn't really painful though. It sometimes happens when I am merely sitting. Maybe things will get straightened out. If I didn't have something to do here on campus later, I would have driven home to talk to one of the physical therapists at my gym.

Next time a doctor tells you to do virtually nothing, don't listen to them. Do something. Maybe nothing strenuous, but do something.

Oh, if this helps any, there isn't any swelling.
