Default Industrial Strength Multivitamins

I was looking at the PAK-type (Animal, Monster, etc.) multivitamins aimed for the athlete community. Do anyone have any experience regarding using these? Are they MUCH better then standard over the counter multivitamine capsules?

Any thoughts on this?

My main experience is that they had me chuffing too many pills. It became a bit tedious.

I moved on to using D3 along with a more conventional multi; one made from a company that I trust.

Over the counter multis are generally known as being very inconsistent with regards to ingredients per capsule.

I used to take the Animal packs years ago. I eventually thought they were to expensive for what I was getting and switched to Optimum Nutrition Opti-men.

Animal PAK was no better (in perceived results to me) than taking a cross section of "regular" vitamins.

If you're going to take them, my opinion is split the difference between basic quality and price.

They're marketed on some dodgy premisses:

1) That an athlete's (read: recreational trainer) physiology is so different from that they need different amounts of micronutrients.

2) That if 50mcg of a nutrient is good for you, 100 mcg must be quite as good for you.

As I said in the thread Markie linked to, it's really not clear that even old faithful vitamin supplements like vitamin C help athletes at all. In fact, the opposite may be true.

Not that I'm endorsing vitamins...I believe that good food covers your bases unless you have some underlying (and rare) medical issue.
