Default Yes, I workout, So what?

Here is a post i posted on my blog:

Quote:
I find myself quite a bit on the social networks. Iíve created a network of fitness and strength enthusiasts who are all in to training; be it to get strong, look better, become a better athlete, you name it. Then there are those who simply have to share their mind make comments like:

-ĒWhy does anyone want to make their body look like that?Ē
-ĒEww..Thatís gross.Ē
-ĒWhatís the use of lifting heavy weights?Ē
-ĒYea Iím cool, I lift weights and workout.Ē (sarcasm)

Dedication and Sacrifice for my first competition in bodybuilding, help me land my dream job.
No, Iím not a meathead although some may think I am because I basically live and breathe to workout. Or maybe me not talking and socializing while I workout will make you think so as well. But I will agree, there are others out there that do ruin it for the rest of us. They have to make themselves feel much bigger and powerful than they really are because deep down inside their actually very insecure. Or they fell like they have to make loud noises and talk down to others to make sure people know they have balls between their legs.

Those types of people are all training for the wrong reason. They make the gym define who they are. Iím not that jackass that walks around the gym with a cut-off shirt all the way down the side (by the way, when did that shit start? Where a damn shirt) walking around as if his chest is filled with air and his lats are soo frickiní big.

The first thing these people want you know about them is that they workout. Donít be surprised if a meathead blatantly comes out and say, ďYea, I workout a little,Ē while he flexes his traps.

I donít like walking around telling the world that I workout. When you see me, itíll be obvious that I donít sit on the couch and eat ding dongs and ho-hos and get excited to eat pizza at Planet Fitness. I donít workout to impress or make people feel bad for their fitness and dietary choices. Do what ever you like. If you are happy, go for it.

But for me, lifting weights is just part what I do. Yes I want a good looking powerful healthy body. But not to show it off and be like ďHey, look at my muscles!Ē

Why do I really workout? Because itís the one thing I can fully control. Itís my body. Others decided to break it down and abuse it. Iíve decided to build it up and take care of it.

Training in the gym is a reflection of what I can accomplish in life. If Iím succeeding in the gym and reaching my goals, then there is no reason I canít apply the same determination and dedication to every aspect of my life.

I agree with what you've said, working out is just part of my weekly schedule. I get really excited when I have a good lifting day, but I also find value in the bad lifting days. I couldn't imagine my week going by without exerting myself in the gym, it's just what I do, not for any type of glory but just because i like it.

But why do you have to be so down on pizza? It's part of my week too

Nailed it, right on the head.

Amen! It's everywhere at my gym. Arm holes cut all the way up to the neck band and all the way down to the waist. They're little more than ponchos that show your traps.

That's one of the things I like best about lifting. No matter what is going on in my life, the iron doesn't care. It's always taunting me, and I enjoy silencing it's voice.

Lifting is something I have done a few days a week since I was 14 years old (28/ almost 29 now). I enjoy pushing the limits of my body. This is a big reason why I compete as well. The energy on the platform can push my body to another level. Lifting provides a great since of accomplishment for anyone who takes it seriously. Doesnt matter if you bench 100 or 1000.

I always find these people fascinating, they seem to think that all anyone should do is whatever they themselves are doing.

We do it because we can and we want to, simple. What appeals to one does not appeal to all; I lift weights but I don't like the overly steroidal guys/gals but it's their path to choose etc.

I also hold my breath just for the fun of it, there's no good reason for it, not really, but I find enjoyment in adding that extra second and the bliss (aka BlueOpium) that accompanies it.
