I used to have a bunch of places I would visit, when I was more in to amateur photography. But once film went away, I lost my interest in the work.. but while I was taking shots, my favorite places were Walden Pond in Concord, MA and Purgatory Chasms in Sutton, MA.
Walden Pond is a bit over crowded during the Summer, but it's a great place for a family day outside. Hiking, biking, beach and swimming, fishing, etc.. good stuff, and only 30 minutes out.
Purgatory Chams is my favorite place, and I still go there usually once a year just to walk around. It is the remnants of a glacier that retreated leaving a formation of rock that is amazing. I wish I had better picture I've taken, but nothing is loaded on my work machine. There's also hiking there, the occasional rock climbing class, and cross-country skier during the Winter months.
Both of those are just daily visit places though.. I go camping in NH a few times each year, at a dispersed camping area. I love it because it is in the woods, yet only 10 minutes from Interstate-93, with local towns a few exits away. The site I try to get is right along a river that is raging all year long, the sound of the water is so peaceful. Plus with room for mega-bonfires, it's a guaranteed good time. And we go biking along this old ski place, that still uses a chairlift to bring people up for the hike down. They also hook the bikes up so you can ride down the trails...
