So how far do we let these people go before they should get the death penalty? The convict in Gasp post is not the only pea in the pod. They walk among us. How about the guy that raped, smothered and then threw the naked body of his 3 year old niece in the river. Before he was caught, he tied an 86 year old woman to a bed, raped her, then set the house on fire. Death penalty??? I say yes. I can give many more examples but you all get the point. The U.S. Federal govt still has the death penalty. They just don't use it often enough.

I would say a person is more useful alive, and although I feel he should suffer the same fate of his victims, I do not believe any human beings have the right to decide who lives or dies.

So society benefits, he should be forced to do manual labor for the rest of his life. The mentally insane that cannot perform those duties are another issue I've not contemplated as of yet.

Keeping the latter individuals alive would prove costly, but not enough to justify extreme "treatments" i.e. "putting the useless animals down."

The most important point I want to communicate is that I'm not defending criminals and that generalizations are dangerous. Individual cases, especially considering human beings, are too unique to be lumped together and true justice is not served in doing so. Those generalizations can quickly snowball and encompass problems outside of their original scope. We should take extreme care to give an issue due diligence rather than slap a "solution" on it and call it a day, and I really believe that method is derived from issues being too far removed from the individuals considering them.

Exactly what use or purpose does this person serve? The man who raped a 3 year old, threw the body in a river, then bound and raped an old lady. What purpose does he serve?

How do you force a person who is willing to chew through their own arm just for the fun of it? Many of these people wont do anything unless its detramental to themselves or those around them. Any opportunity they get they will lash out to hurt someone, themselves included. The point I think you're missing is that these people aren't human. At least not like you and I are.

firstly, those were two different inmates, and I covered my thoughts on the mentally insane in an above post.

secondly, deciding who is and isn't human is exactly the type of thing reasonable people should avoid.
