Default Official Book Discussion and Last Book You Read Thread

When i get time i enjoy reading as much as i enjoy watching films. i am one of those guys that will read pretty much anything so my list of books that I have read may be erratic and unusual.

Dont know how many of you guys read, but as we have a film thread I though we just may as well have a Book thread.

.....

Ill kick off, the last book i read was A Painted House by John Grisham. It's not his normal type and it's written from the perspective of a seven year old boy, so it gives an innocent feel to the writing. It's not bad on the whole and has some good parts. A nice easy read whilst on the toilet

Good thread Carl. I am a book geek.

I am currently reading two books.

Drood by Dan Simmons

Quote:
In this creepy intertextual tale of professional jealousy and possible madness, Wilkie Collins tells of his friendship and rivalry with Charles Dickens, and of the mysterious phantasm named Edwin Drood, who pursues them both. Drood, cadaverous and pale, first appears at the scene of a railway accident in which Dickens was one of the few survivors; later, Dickens and Collins descend into Londons sewer in search of his lair. Meanwhile, a retired police detective warns Collins that Drood is responsible for more than three hundred murders, and that he will destroy Dickens in his quest for immortality. Collins is peevish, vain, and cruel, and the most unreliable of narrators: an opium addict, prone to nightmarish visions. The narrative is overlong, with discarded subplots and red herrings, but Simmons, a master of otherworldly suspense, cleverly explores envys corrosive effects.
Flawless by Bob Paris

Quote:
Champion bodybuilder Paris follows his Beyond Built with this unique program for "accelerated gains" that will give the reader the body he wants in only ten weeks. Included are step-by-step methods to accelerate the bodyshaping process, attain a total image, motivate the mind, customize one's diet, feel great, and keep the results. 150 photos.
^ Flawless is very high volume in nature and is somewhat interesting because it never focuses on weight. It is completely "feel" and volume driven.

Flawless sounds really interesting tbh...

I am currently reading King of Torts again by John Grisham, only about 40 pages in atm though so ill let you know (im thinking it may be a bit formulaic unfortunately), unless youve read it already

Quote:
Within the high-powered milieu of the public defender's office in Washington DC, Grisham's protagonist is an ambitious young lawyer who finds himself saddled with what appears to be a nothing case: one of a wave of crack cocaine killings that are the bane of the capital. But as Clay Carter investigates, he finds that something more than a random street murder is involved here and a massive conspiracy becomes apparent. The stakes are suddenly very high indeed.

I recently finished Archangel too by Robert Harris. Its definitely worth a look.

Quote:
Harris paints a compelling portrait of modern Russia, particularly Moscow but at the same time introduces some fascinating theories and ideas about the political direction Russia is taking and the burden of the past it drags behind it. The result is that you are simultaneously gripped by an exciting piece of fiction but also slightly horrified at how true to life much of this could be.

This is the last book I read, not for the faint-hearted. A detailed acccount of the Hunt for Peter Sutcliffe, AKA The Yorkshire Ripper and the complete and utter incompetence shown by 3 police forces that allowed him to continue his killing spree for years. He was actually interviewed three times and released each time without charge or further enquiry.

I love reading and writing children's fiction.

I also love reading and writing adult horror, so it gives me a good balance.

The Hobbit is one of my favorite books of all time. King's Gunslinger is in my top 10 as well.

And thanks Carl! Boys really love the books, so if they are not your thing, pass them along. There are adventure stories that are simply about taking the reader to places beyond the imagination. I take the kids in my story and place them in a fantastic world and put them through the grinder.
