X-Men First Class
Saw this first thing Saturday Morning and REALLY enjoyed it.
The movie focused on the emerging friendship and eventual parting of ways between Magneto and Professor X and is about 70% a Magneto movie. The actor who plays Magneto was amazing-- captured all the complexity of the character and more. Made it ALL believable. The young Prof X comes off as arrogant and cocky. You can see exactly how both men end up where they are currently (As older mutants).
With the backdrop of the Cuban Missile Crisis, this movie has a much more overall serious tone than, say, Thor. Themes of acceptance and response to violence/mistreatment abound. The obvious civil rights/suffrage/queer pride parables can be drawn (as is always the case).
And most importantly, even though you know where Magneto will be by the end of the movie, they someone make you hope the entire time that his transformation does not happen.
They stayed true to the themes of the comics while changing enough details to make an good and effective story to people who may not still read X-Men comics.
I've been reading X-Men since I was in elementary school and was very pleased.
Complication makes it easy to explain failure.
