Writing Article Tips

I was talking with Mr. Steve Shaw earlier and found he writes for M&S.

Well this is directed to Steve and others who have experience writing articles, more specifically towards training, nutrition, fitness, and events.

I'm going as a journalist to the Strongest Man at the JF Hurley YMCA.
So I have no idea what to expect. I'm trying to prepare in my mind what I would ask, etc etc.

I have never been to a single competition of any form of lifting.

Photography is no problem since I do it as a side source of income.
I've read BBG's post and bringing something to be shaded in and drinks since it'll probably be very warm.

Any tips? Advice?

Thanks,
FMS

From a writing standpoint try to write as you speak...naturally. Don't hesitate to use your personality, and speaking nuances. Also, don't add colorful words you wouldn't normally use in your daily speech.

Write articles about aspect that excite you; write to yourself and for yourself.

Writing is only interesting if it feels natural and personal, is about topics you enjoy. Dry writing, devoid of personality, doesn't connect well.

Thanks again for the help man.
This definitely helped open my mind a bit to the way I should write. Also, I'm looking for your books! I want to get my hands on paper, something tangible.
