Default Military Veterans

What would you tell your children if they were considering joining the military?

I'm thinking about joining the army to become a doctor, my practice ASVAB scores were really high so I have my choice of just about anything I want to do. They say after I take the real ASVAB I can have my choice reserved for me. What do you guys think about this opportunity? All of my school would be paid for including medical school.

My first piece of advice would be to become an officer. Second ...don't listen to your recruiter and become a meat shield. Third, take some college courses while in service. Fourth, join the Air Force or Navy.

The military is a good opportunity. Just make sure you get advice before signing on the dotted...

Not sure what the ASVAB is...it's been a while for me. And wasn't sure if you planned on school after the military.

ASVAB is a test you have to take before joining any military branch. It basiy is an IQ test to see what jobs you can or can't do. The higher your score, the better jobs you can get. After basic and job training they say I can go back to school to get my bachelors degree and after I do that I can apply for the Army's medical school. AND it is all paid for by the Army. I could probably go in as a radiology specialist since my scores are high and then work my way up to doctor while doing that and going to school.

Have you thought about one of the military academies? It seems you are quite intelligent, although they are very difficult to get into. Also, many schools have an ROTC program.

I did not serve in the military, but I have looked into it. I think college should be your first priority if you want to become a doctor.

Sounds like a good plan to me.

That's just one of my options. They are going to want me to go to school to be a doctor, and they won't send me to fight because they say "doctors are more valuable in school getting trained"
