Join the Marines! Semper Fi! Ooh rah!

Best, and worst decision I ever made.

Best, because it changed me as a person.

Worst, because sometime I wish I just went to college.

Overall, if I went back in time I would probably enlist again, and just try to make mroe out of it.

Yeah Rick, the one thing I would have done differently is getting comissioned or becoming a warrant officer. But I definitely owe my current career and many of the good parts of my character to having served in the military.

I just wanted to make sure. I don't know about officers, but can't you enter college and get involved with the ROTC program? They make big cheese in the military compared to grunts.

My dad was in the Air Force and I've lived on base before talked to a lot of guys from all branches. I would definitely check out the Air Force their living conditions are 10x better than the Army. If you were in the Air Force and got stationed at an Army base they pay you extra because their living conditions are considered sub-standard to those of the Air Force.

Chances are if you go in idk what the minimum enlistment term is 3-4 years I think you'll probably be deployed to the Middle East. My dad has been over there 6 times and has only seen combat once when he deployed with an infantry unit of the Army.

If you're interested in MP the Air Force also has MP and Security Forces.

OK. I've been sober for a while since that first post. If you weren't already aware, I'm a combat veteran who served in the Army and was deployed to Iraq during 2003, the first year of that war/occupation.

It was already mentioned in the thread, but I will repeat the sentiment. Both Iraq and Afghanistan are combat zones which encompass the whole country. Regardless of your MOS in the Army, the possibility of experiencing a dangerous situation is always there. I was regularly out on patrols, providing security with an M240B, on top of a Humvee, even though I was trained to be an M1 tank crewman. Also, being an MP is not a good option if you're trying to avoid being in the sh*t.

If you don't want to see combat, go to the Chair Force... I mean, Air Force. Unless you're a pilot, you will be far from angry Haji trying to expel the occupying infidels from their respective countries.

Whatever you decide, good luck. Just don't rush into anything. If I could go back and change things, I would. Maybe my best friend would still be alive. He was only 19 when he died out there.

On a related note, here's something for you to watch:

Oh Diesel, I'm so sorry to hear that. That just made me cry! My condolences, hun.
