Swim instead I switched to that when I got shin splits from too much road running when training for my black belt.

this is actually the way i was taught to run almost 20 years ago. if you look at runners even of long distance they seem to have a funny posture simply because they don't run heel first. our track coach used to tell us that if the guy in front of you is runnin on his heels he is tired and you got him.
