Post Why looks are not synonymous with knowledge in bodybuilding culture

True story: I trained with a guy who will likely be earning his IFBB pro card soon a few days ago, after the workout I told him I was gonna head home and have some oats mixed with peanut butter and whey protein. He proceeded to gaze at me like I was insane and told me that fats post-workout will be more likely to go to fat tissue and will make it so the protein digests too slowly for recovery…I remained speechless because I knew he was already lost to the dark side of broscience.

Always always always remember that just because someone looks muscular and lean, it does not justify everything they do and say as unanimous proof that it's optimal.

Indeed, never judge a book by it's cover.

Perhaps he should look into going gluten free, getting some more healthy fats like DHA, and a bit of aerobic exercise in order to grow more brain cells.

I've heard the no-fat post-workout thing for 28 years. Still waiting for it to impact me.

I eat ice cream post workout once in a while. The one that is not low fat. Will I die from over eating ice cream?

Well ... True story. Someone actually told me that ice cream post workout means I lose all the "gains" I made in the gym

I think some ideas like this have a small degree of merit. Personally, I like to avoid fat postworkout, but the reason isn't because fat is bad. I prefer to maximize how much protein and carbs I can get post workout, in as little food as I need, which means less fat.

Does it make a difference? Not really.

There's a lot of other cases where science caught up to bro science years later though, or at least the bro science that came from the real experiences of the guys in the 60's and 70's. Unfortunately, however, that also gave some credibility to all the other BS bro science.

But there is science that says protein is absorbed at a slower rate when consumed with fats.....

That is true, thanks for pointing that out.

I think the point is that the science dealing with post workout nutrition is exaggerated, especially in regards to speed of protein absorption affecting strength gains.
