Default From Obese to State Record Holder in 25 months

This is mostly for our newer members, our over weight members, and our older members, as most of the long time members know my story already.

I had a stroke at 48 yrs old, and lost my business. Having a stroke will change your attitude and outlook on life in a hurry.

Nov 1st, 2011 at a weight of just under 280 lbs I decided to change my life. I started to lose weight.

May 13th, 2012, my 49th B-Day, I weighed 167 lbs.

July, 2012 after trying and disliking several forms of exercise, I started weight lifting. Having NO IDEA what I was doing.

Nov, 2013 discovered Steve Shaw, Muscle and Brawn, and most importantly, Power Lifting.

April, 2013. After 5 months of PL training I entered my first meet and won the Masters II 181 lb class with a 700 lb total

April, 2013 Discovered, and started following "BIG" by M&B member Jonathan Byrd

July, 2013, entered and won my next meet with a total of 788 lbs

Oct, 2013, entered and won my next meet with a total of 834 lbs

Dec, 2013, competed in the 21st Florida State Senior Games...a mini Olympics held here in Florida. Won the Dead Lift with a 336 lift, and the Overall with a total of 859 lbs.

Feb 2013....this is where this has all been leading to....yesterday the Florida State Senior Games released their updated State Record Book:

RAW Dead Lift...82.5 KG weight class...Marvin Wheeler, Hasting, Florida...152.5 Kg
RAW 3 Lift Total...82.5 Kg weight class...Marvin Wheeler, Hastings, Florida...390.5 Kg

SOOOOOOOOOOOO

You think you are to fat to get into shape????

You thing you are too OLD to start weight training????

You think you are not strong enough to compete?????

THINK AGAIN....I am nobody special......and I was able to do all 3.

YOU JUST HAVE TO WANT IT BAD ENOUGH!!

The iron is there during my times of happiness, sadness and anger. The iron is there available through the 4 seasons and inclement weather. The iron is there to either comfort me or motivate me. The Iron manages to show me how strong I am or how humble I need to be. The iron does not yell, but it always demands respect. The iron is not a disciplinarian, but when disrespected, I feel it for a long time. The iron does not love or hate, but we definitely share a strong bond. And no matter how far I stay away or for how long, the iron is there, waiting to be lifted.

Awesome, Moe!

I understand if you'd rather not answer this, it's just that I'm curious, were you put on any meds (not asking what they were, just whether there were any) and did they affect your ability to get into shape or was it a case of recovery and no meds and were you told at any point in time not to lift above a certain amount and so forth?

Like I say I understand if you'd prefer not to answer, that's not a problem.

No problem Babs...NO meds of any kind......EVER. I took, (and still take) a multi, fish oil, Potassium, B Complex, and Iron. Along with 4 protein shakes a day. It was about 800 cals a day for 7 months...a lot of people will tell you thats the wrong way to lose weight....but it worked for me.

Never any restrictions on weight training. I didnt start the weights until after I lost all the weight. I made up my first program, that was terrible. After finding M&B, Steve put me on a Doug Hepburn program that I followed for 5 months until my first meet. Then it was "BIG" and I have used it ever since.

Just a LOT of Hard Work......oh yeah, and I still track every calorie I put in my mouth.
