Janesville teacher drunk on field trip
We leave our kids with teachers and expect them to be safe. I would be ticked if this were my child's teacher.

I live in Janesville - fortunately this teacher is NOT at my kids' school. I'm not sure what I would do if she was but I'm pretty confident it would involve some sort of "Hulk SMASH" episode.

so many teachers and wannabe teachers, so few willing to take it seriously. i've met teachers who are amazing: intelligent, imaginative, driven, and caring. but some people lump real teachers into the same category as people like this, who don't take it seriously. i wish school districts would discriminate between the people who look like good teachers on paper and the people who are actually good teachers in practice.

You would certainly get fired for this in the UK.

It's pretty bad, but before we characterise her as a total waste of oxygen, it's worth bearing in mind that we don't know anything about the rest of her professional career. People f**k up sometimes. Every day, somewhere in the world an intelligent, caring person makes an unaccountably idiotic decision. Doctors do it, policemen do it, personal trainers do it, you do it, I do it. Sometimes those people are committed professionals who have given years of their lives to a job...but they make an isolated mistake or they go through a bad patch. Or maybe she has a long history of this - we just don't know.

Wisconsin is a drinking state, so a lot of people are sympathetic to cases like this. When someone they know gets "popped" for drunk driving, it's almost treated as a rite of passage like, "Oh you finally got your first DUI!" There's definitely a "It happens to everyone at least once" mentality.

But yeah, I don't know this woman and I don't know the circumstances or anything else other than what the media has fed me but I know it's pretty darn easy to wait until I get home from work to get my drunk on.
