Default Getting it wrong!

Here's what happens when information is mixed and very incorrect; I heard this on a TV programme earlier and thought you guys would be interested to hear it:

"...metabolism increases after a workout, so, for a complete hour after your workout you can have whatever you want to eat and it won't matter."

The person meant that it wouldn't store as fat or be registered as calories etc.

Obviously, this is a case of two pieces of information which have been incorrectly intertwined, probably via the Chinese Whisper route of information exchange.

The separately mixed parts would be:
A) metabolism increases after working out
B) the PWO window for eating, 1 hour after a session

So, the lesson, double-check whatever info you hear because you may well be getting Chinese Whispers and incorrect info which will not stand you in good stead. If the people that had that info, had the right info to begin with they would have understood that eating a whole pile of profiteroles, directly after their workout, was not a good option and did indeed count towards both calorie intake and did matter, in the long run.

That is all

Yeah, you might want to cut that back a tad

Strangely, nobody corrected them, well, not on camera, at least.

Cool

Well I don't know about y'all...

If I only ate in that hour after a hard workout, I could still easily consume well over twice my Target Calories for the Day.

The idea that I could do that after every workout and not pile on the Flab is Ridiculous!

But then, maybe those TV Experts work out much harder than me.

My Father used to say this about Mouthy Pencil Necks:

"A Hard Day's Work; A Bicycle Ride and a 5 Cent Dill Pickle would Kill Him."

Sometimes he alternated,

"A Hard Day's Work; a Bicycle Ride and a 5 Cent Cigar would Kill Him."

{The 5 Cent ones were the Big Black Primo-Deluxe ones back then...}

People like things in black and white. Easy to understand. The world doesn't work that way, especially in the case of the human body.

Eating also increases metabolism, so it could be said that in the hour after you eat a meal you can eat whatever you want and it won't count. Makes sense to me!

Nothing was mentioned about experts, just ordinary people that got it wrong.

This is just a case of people hearing something and either misinterpreting it or convoluting it, or even having the initial meaning alter over years of not holding on to the correct information...not really about black and white, 'cos even if it was in black and white, it would have still ended up mixed and incorrect...that was the whole point of the post, people don't always get it right, therefore a piece of incorrect info or "myth" begins and is passed from one to the next...hence, the reason for checking info and not necessarily taking it as gospel.

Boy do I wish that were true.

There was a study comparing HIIT to steady state, and it showed by adding 3 minutes of HIIT to an existing 20 minute steady state session that the body burned a small percentage of calories more each day.

I forget the exact percentage, but it may have allowed for an extra half candy bar, but certainly not a buffet.

Yep, they really do love to push that EPOC...do a bit of research, come across the right links and then find out it's very minimal; these days, I just do the varied intensities because I happen to not get bored that way and let the rest take care of itself.

I got caught in that trap though, some years ago...not any more, not since I found the Holy Grail of working out
