Cool Any Shot Putters or Other Throwers?

I thought I saw a Sub-Forum for Throwing.

Cannot find it now.

Maybe somewhere else.

I threw the 12 Pound Shot in HS with conspicuous lack of success—but I weighed less than 200 then.

I came across a Track and Field Supplier and they have a bewildering array of Shot weights from 4 Pounds up to 20.

(16 is what they use in College and Olympic.

Maybe the 18 and 20 Pounders are for training only, or perhaps they have "Odd-Lift" contests occasionally...)

Anyway, I remember when the Shot Putter Al Feurbach did fairly well in the Olympic Lifting Nationals.

And George Frenn (Hammer Thrower) set some Squat Records in the 242(?) pound class.

Found and re-read an old article online that says that Putting the Shot becomes a mania for a blessed few.

The one bad thing about the Shot, it totally neglects one arm.

I'd like to see some right and left hand totals.

Fact is, were I wealthy, I'd sponsor a contest that combined right and left hand totals with 12, 16 and 20 Pound weights, and offer such a rich Prize fund to get Beaucoup Practitioners.

{I was reading that the Precise Technique is very Weight Specific. It would be interesting to see what happened where it was necessary to be good with multiple weights...}

Anyway, feel free to kick in.

I love watching throwing events. I've never done them, but I appreciate people using the strength they've built to perform athletic tasks.

I threw in college. Throwing with a heavier implement is just typically a training tool. I use to throw a 10lb plate as a warm up before throwing the discus.

Cool

I kinda figured—but since the 18 and 20 pound Shots are available and reasonably cheap...

I don't think that it would violate any of the Fundamental Laws of Physics if a Track Meet Director decided to sponsor an 18 or 20 Pound throw...

Like sometimes they have odd lift contests for One Hand Snatch or Bent Press or whatever.

Some college coach online talked about when he went to College and Graduated to the 16 pound Shot, he thought that he'd really be able to fling the 12 Pounder when he went home on Spring Break.

He found that his performance with the 12 Pound had actually Deteriorated—mainly because the optimum release angle differed for the two weights.

That's why I say that it would be interesting to see a contest where the result was based on the combined distances of three or more Different weights.

Actually, I think the Shot Putters and Hammer Throwers have more in common with Lifters than with Track Athletes.

Discus—a Little less Power Intensive (I Think)...

Javelin seems more like an Athletic event than a Power event—but that's just my take...

And I haven't even read much on the topic for over 30 years.

It might be interesting and beneficial to pair Throwing Contests with Lifting Contests.

My Question?

Any Dedicated Throwers?

Any comments on my musings?

{I just have to get one of those 4 Pound Shots.

Put a tapered hole through the middle—Far out War Club!}

Oh, right...not a thrower but I have been perusing a hammer thrower's training on youtube which was interesting; but, I can't recall his name, I think he was Japanese...if I remember it, I'll post at a later date.

I threw in high school. I still do every now and again. I've been trying to throw more lately to maybe do a Highland Games contest.
