Default The pump

is there any reason to specifically go for a pump during the workout, and if so why.

I have never gone for a pump. I don't see the value or the point. it's one of those perpetual bodybuilding myths..."Pump equals muscle stimulation." It's like the myth that certain rep schemes build muscle.

I've built muscle on all rep schemes. And I've never purposely tried for a pump.

i do see some benefit in it, but its not neccesary unless you plan to step on stage, the pump is just to get that extra little bit of muscle, but it is non functional hypertrophy

its good to get a little pump going right away just to flood the muscle with blood, in a sense priming it for heavier sets to come.

I was wondering this as well. I've heard some shit, like it helps open muscle something or others to let something or other do something..???

all i know is it makes me look good

I rarely ever really get pumped, due no isolation, besides in back and forearms. I noticed higher reps pump me up more, except with back (deadlifts) i get a pump from low reps.

My warmups are focused on preparing me for the heavy weight to come. I rarely warmup up with more then 5 reps on light warmups and 3 reps on heavy warmups. Sometimes I do multiple heavier warmup sets with 3 reps though.

I like to save my steam for the money sets.
