Default Taxes

Working on taxes right now. Did mine and I have to pay in 432 for federal but get a refund of 117 for state. Wife has not done hers yet, but I wonder if it will make a diff if we file jointly? We have filed jointly ever, only been married a year and a half. Last year i had to pay in but every other year I get a refund it goes to back support for my daughter. I worry that if we file jointly and do get a refund, it will all go for back support which is not fair to my wife. Has anyone else been in this predicament before? I am going to see which way we will make out the best and then file them that way. I do not mind my money going for back support but my wife always uses her money in refunds for a vacation.

Filing jointly will allow you a larger deduction which could make for a larger refund, but you are right about your wife's refund being taken by your back support, so filing jointly would probably not be in your best interest.

Just do both and see which is better. You dont pay til you file using online tax services anyway. Taxslayer is awesome.
