Default Guess I'm a slow starter but...

after getting the idea in my head circa 1993 that I wanted to be a paramedic, I finally did it. Got my National registry, New York state, and graduated in the last week or two. Not that I've been sitting twiddling my thumbs in the meantime it does feel good to meet a goal, that five or six years ago I never thought I would accomplish. Between kids, school, occasionally working, and jumping through all the hoops that paramedic school requires all I can say is thank God it's over. Not that learning or testing ever stops but its feels like I got to the top of the mountain at least and the rest should be a little easier with the education and preparatio/indoctrination I recieved. Now to find a job and actually ply my trade.

Congrats on hitting the goal. Not an easy job. These guys are heroes to me.

You inspire me. Gotta get myself back to school and finish up. Have a cold one for me.

Big Vasalva,
Got a keg of St. Louis's finest on ice, just did my squat day so I can drink without feeling to guilty.

And to all, inspiring or heroic or not, I just like to remember that if you like doing something it doesn't feel like work. And after being an EMT, intermediate, and a LPN for almost two decades now I've come to the point where dealing with patients doesn't feel like work. Dealing with management, time crunches, regulatory bodies that govern me etc. is an entirely different story. But as with everything else in life there's tradeoffs.

Congrats!

When huge amounts of study end, it's kind of bitter-sweet since you don't know what to do with all your free time; I recall studying almost 24-7 for several weeks at a time. Injured my ankle, then did my hand in with 3 weeks of continual note taking...not bright but not a lot else I could do at the time anyway

You out to celebrate as a group?

5k,
Free time , what free time? What I do have of free time is going to be spent exploring employment options. I'm still a per diem LPN, so I have the luxury of not having to jump at the first paramedic job willing to hire me, no sense in changing jobs just to change jobs. Money, hours, benefits, institutional values, etc. have to be right as I don't want to have to change jobs for a good long time.
