Default What does it take to be a good teacher?

What does it take to be a good teacher for body building or as a personal trainer? What characteristics would you look for if you were going to hire a personal trainer today?

Agreed. I want someone who has been able to work with others and really know their stuff. I do not want someone who is new to come in and make me do stuff without knowing if their method really works or not.

Experience in the field I am pursuing. I don't want a marathon coach for powerlifting goals, nor do I want a PL coach for cross country skiing.

Successful clients

Personal success

Theoretical knowledge

Client testimonials and results.

For a personal trainer I'm not too bothered about masses of personal experience, if they have a good track record of producing the type of results they're advertising for then that's enough.

I'd never hire a personal trainer though, so this is somewhat of a moot point.

A person can know a subject back to front but unless they are able to impart the information in a useful way, they will never be a good teacher; so, a personal trainer needs to be able to communicate effectively and clearly.

I'd hire you just so I could nag at you about fixing your damned thumbless squat grip.

But that's supposed to be safer for fast ditching the bar if required

Not if you do face down squatting like Hazz

I'm afraid it's going to land on his head.
