So regarding these videos, which are pretty convincing coming from the world's top deadlifter, would it be a good idea to drop my working weight down for deadlifts and work on speed up till September? I've been focusing on pure power up till now and my speed off the floor isn't the greatest.

Depends, I would just alternate from week to week if anything.The biggest problem when people get introduced to a new training variable they solely adapt the new program while throwing out everything they ever done or learned out the window.

Everyone has specific strength goals in mind but in hindsight if they only focus on the correction of a weaknesses i.e. speed, they just will just create another one weakness i.e. static strength.

If you only focus on speed work you will eventually forget what its like to pull heavy unless you use some type of resistance (bands/chains) which overload the top or do heavy block pulls or something to balance it out.

Well, there are stiff-legged deadlifts, which are a great exercise, but a traditional DL is pulled with your legs slightly bent (or whatever it takes for you to get your back straight).

You should buy the book Starting Strength.
