What Is It?
A Dextro-Cyclodized™ material is one that has been specifically modified using our proprietary pharmaceutical-level delivery technology to increase its ability to penetrate body tissues and release biologically active compounds under specific conditions.
This complex procedure involves processing a target organic compound (or “guest’ molecule) with cycloamylose (a cyclic oligosaccharide created from starch) to form what is known in chemistry as an “Inclusion Compound”. Cycloamylose is a water-soluble, doughnut-shaped molecule that possesses a ‘water-like’ outer surface and ‘oil-like’ inner surface.Certain organic compounds have an affinity for the inner surface of cycloamylose molecules, while others do not. Consequently, not all compounds can be used with this technology, which is why tremendous expertise is necessary to utilize it properly.
More simply put, cycloamylose is able to form a host-guest complex with hydrophobic (molecules given the unique nature imparted by their structure. Therefore, the Dextro-Cyclodizing™ process involves taking suitable organic compound molecules and “hosting” them inside cycloamylose molecules.
Ironically, the very thing that the Dextro-Cyclodizing™ process is designed to protect a compound from is also the key mechanism in the body that activates it: a change in pH. As the Dextro-Cyclodized™ complex is introduced to the highly acidic environment of the stomach and duodenum, the inclusion complex degrades and releases the active compound into the bloodstream for absorption.
Our process is most appropriate for materials that are naturally hydrophobic (not water-soluble). It is a highly effective and powerful delivery system in these cases because the treatment process greatly modifies the physical and chemical properties of the guest molecule, especially regarding water solublity. The soluability of a compound is an important charactistic for absorption because those that aren’t are, many times, hard for the body to absorb. Therefore, increasing soluability, in many cases, can increase overall potency and bioavalibilty.

Besides the added cost, other companies also do not have the technology, staff or equipment to employ this technology properly. Some have tried to develop similar delivery systems in the past. However, they did nothing more than blend a chosen compound with a cycloamylose-like material. obviously this will not work. What Is pH and Why Is It Important?
Before examining the benefits of pH-Xact™ Delivery Technology, it’s critical to first understand exactly what “pH” is. The pH system was invented in 1909 by a Danish biochemist named Soren Sorensen. The letters pH represent a universal number used by all scientists to indicate the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution. The “p” stands for “potenz” (the potential to be) and the “H” stands for Hydrogen. Therefore pH stands for potential hydrogen.
In plain English, the pH scale shows how acidic (pH 0-6.9) or alkaline (pH 7.1-14) a given solution is. At pH 7, the solution is neither acidic nor alkaline – it is neutral. It’s also important to understand that each point on the scale represents a tenfold change. This means when you compare a solution with a pH of 6 and one with a ph of 4, it does not mean that the latter is twice as acidic. Rather, it is 100 times more acidic.
Because pH really hasn’t been talked about in the supplement industry, most tend to disregard it, thinking of it only as a gimmick. They simply do not understand why there is a need to adjust pH for certain types of compounds or to enhance delivery.
To fully grasp the importance of pH, call your local pool, gardening or fish supply store and ask them about it. Furthermore, the Chemical, Biochemistry, Agronomy, Food Science, Pulp and Paper, Chemical Research and Engineering, and Environmental Research and Pollution Control industries all live and die by this science. As does the human body.
Most biological fluids fall somewhere between pH 6 and 8, with a few exceptions, such as stomach acid (around pH 1-2). In fact, your blood must maintain a constant pH level close to 7.4. Should it fall to 7 or rise above 7.8, that would mean certain death…now that’s important! Fortunately, the buffering ability of the blood helps to prevent wild swings in pH levels.
Why Is pH Important For Bioavailability and Absorption?
Bioavailability is the ability of a nutrient or compound to reach the bloodstream where it can be absorbed and find its way to the intended site of action in the body. Therefore,the most bioavailable compounds are those that start with 100% potency and purity, and then remain that way once ingested. The importance of this statement should not be underestimated because most nutrients are absorbed by the small intestine after passing through the harsh environment of the stomach.
By design, the human stomach produces hydrochloric acid (pH of 1-2) to break down foods so their nutrients can more readily be absorbed after reaching the duodenum (small intestine). For that reason, certain compounds, if not properly protected, become unstable: they degrade and become less and less effective once ingested, with little or no active ingredients left. That’s what we mean by, “It’s not how much you take, it’s how much you absorb.”
For example, standard creatine monohydrate, with a pH of 6.5, becomes unstable in most fluids and convert into its natural byproduct, creatinine. However, at a pH of 12, it fully stabilizes. Conversely, Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate (AKG) is actually more effective with an acidic pH. What’s needed is a way to stabilize compounds while ensuring they are still readily absorbable.

PLPD™ Liquid-Based Technology

What is PLPD™?
PLPD™ stands for “Pharmaceutical Liquid Phase Delivery”. This technology is based heavily on the delivery systems commonly used in many over-the-counter and prescription medications. After careful study of these transport methods, Jeff Golini (Executive Scientist at All American Pharmaceutical) developed a proprietary version now used exclusively by All American EFX for most of our liquid-based supplements.
Liquid Delivery vs. Capsules or Tablets
From an end-user standpoint, liquid-based supplements offer a distinct advantage over other delivery forms when it comes to one thing: ease of use. With nothing to mix and no capsule or tablet to swallow, these products offer a highly convenient way to supplement.
From a scientific standpoint, liquids provide a quicker, more efficient means to deliver active ingredients to your system at full strength. By removing the need to digest a capsule or tablet, target compounds are more readily available for absorption into the bloodstream. For these reasons, most cold and flu medications typically utilize liquid delivery systems.
Overall, our exclusive PLPD™ technology represents a more effective and efficient way to elevate the overall effects of our most advanced liquid-based formulas.
If PLPD™ Is So Good, Why Not Use It For All Products?
Even with the major benefit of delivering a full dose of active ingredients to your system more quickly, some might think this technology should be used at all times. However, this is simply not possible or beneficial in all cases. In fact, the effects of some ingredients are actually more pronounced when “time-released” in divided amounts.
A great example is AAKG (Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate). This compound is very “hygroscopic", meaning it absorbs moisture like a sponge, which can diminish its potency. Furthermore, it should be “dripped” into the system for extended nitric oxide production. Therefore, it is best taken as a tablet (not a powder or liquid). Tablets break down slower, and they can be specially designed to release ‘layered’ doses of an active ingredient. That’s why many pharmaceutical drugs are often tablets.
Furthermore, despite what some advertisements may claim, liquid-based delivery systems (and, for that matter, powders) do not offer the ability to ‘time-release’ ingredients. Nor do they increase the bioavailability of the active compounds.
All Liquid Delivery Systems Are Not Created Equal
There are 2 critical factors that must be considered when working with a liquid delivery system: Solubility and Stability.
Solubility - Solubility (or how well a compound dissolves in liquids) is another determining factor for the overall effectivenes of a liquid-based formula. It’s a simple fact that not all substances will dissolve when placed in a liquid. For this reason, some manufacturers use strong acids to chemically ‘force’ a compound to go into solution. Others try to create a ‘serum’, or clear liquid, out of a given nutrient by literally melting it down at extreme temperatures. In both cases, these processes can literally destroy the active ingredients, rendering them useless.
Stability – Stability (a compound’s ability to resist chemical change) is one of the most overlooked issues in the supplement industry. Many products are formulated with compounds that degrade in liquids and stomach acids, losing their potency and effectiveness, i.e., their bioavailability. Examples include creatine monohydrate, glutamine and beta alanine. Therefore, it doesn’t make sense to create a liquid-based product with these active ingredients in them.
How Does PLPD™ Overcome These Factors?
Solubility – Although it was previously stated that creatine monohydrate, glutamine and beta alanine are not very water-soluble, it’s now finally possible to create highly effective liquid-based formulas with them by combining PLPD™ with our Dextro-Cyclodized™ technology. The active componds are reduced to microparticles, “Dextro-Cyclodized™” , and then they are literally “suspended” within an aqueous base, creating what’s known as a ‘colloid’. By evenly dispersing these microparticles throughout the mixture, it gives the final product the appearance of an actual solution (a liquid with fully dissolved solids).
Stability – PLPD™ is designed for speed of delivery. And key to this is the unique aqueous base mixture that was specifically developed for this technology. It contains proprietary additives that synergistically enhance the delivery of the active nutrients “suspended” within it. Because the base is a liquid, we stabilize these nutrients to preserve their bioavailability using our exclusive Dextro-Cyclodized™ and pH-Xact technologies… before they are added to the mixture. This treatment is what protects the active ingredients against degradation within the liquid base itself, and, ultimately, the stomach.
Can Anyone Do This?
In a word: No! Developing products using PLPD™ is an extremely complex process, requiring specialized equipment and highly experienced personnel. It also demands a thorough understanding of how to properly construct and manufacture liquid-based formulas, especially regarding to the 2 most critical factors: solubility and stability.
